Chapter 6 - The Return to the Concrete Jungle

The limousine glided smoothly back into the bustling heart of the city, dropping Rodrigo, Claudia, and a lively, smiling Camila off at the grand entrance of the Alarcón estate. The contrast between the silent, peaceful mountain cabin and the glittering, high-octane metropolis was striking, but Rodrigo felt entirely grounded. He carried Camila inside himself, ensuring she was settled comfortably in her newly redecorated nursery, surrounded by sunlight and warmth rather than sterile medical monitors.
Once Camila was fast asleep, resting peacefully under Claudia’s watchful eye, Rodrigo stepped into his private study. He opened his laptop for the first time in weeks, watching a cascade of urgent emails, missed calls, and red-flag alerts from his executive team flash across the screen.
Viktor Vance had seized control of three major subsidiary accounts and had scheduled an emergency shareholder vote for Wednesday morning to officially strip Rodrigo of his CEO title and liquidate the company’s core assets.
Elena, his faithful secretary, rushed into the study, out of breath and frantic.
“Mr. Alarcón! Thank goodness you’re back! We only have thirty-six hours before the vote. Vance has bribed three major board members and convinced institutional investors that you’ve abandoned the company. How do we fight this? We don't have enough liquid capital to buy back the dumped shares!”
Rodrigo leaned back in his leather chair, a calm, confident smile playing on his lips. The old Rodrigo would have panicked, screaming orders and slamming fists on desks. The new Rodrigo simply looked at a framed drawing Camila had made of him and Dr. Mateo on the mountain.
“Elena,” Rodrigo said smoothly, his voice steady and authoritative. “Calm down. Greed always leaves a paper trail. Have our forensic auditors checked Vance’s offshore accounts over the past five years?”
Elena blinked in surprise. “We… we haven't had time. The legal team has been focused entirely on defending our corporate bylaws.”
“Forget the bylaws,” Rodrigo instructed calmly. “Vance funded his hostile takeover by funneling capital from a restricted environmental fund in Southeast Asia through a shell company in the Cayman Islands. Pull those wire transfer records. I want every single transaction traced, verified, and laid out on my desk by midnight.”

Elena stared at him, sensing the formidable, razor-sharp intelligence that had built the empire in the first place, now supercharged by a newfound clarity of purpose.
“Yes, sir! Right away!” she exclaimed, turning on her heel and rushing out of the room to execute the order.
