Chapter 5 - The Snake Unmasked

Desperate to salvage whatever cash he had left, Marcus drove a beat-up rented sedan to Penelope’s private apartment. He pounded on the door until the lock snapped open.
Inside, the apartment was completely looted. Safe doors swung wide open; clothes were scattered everywhere.
Penelope was sitting on the sofa, packing the last of her designer handbags into a leather trunk. Standing beside her was a tall, muscular man in a leather jacket—her real lover and accomplice, Damon.
"Penelope!" Marcus roared, rushing forward. "You miserable parasite! You ruined my life! Where is the two million dollars I transferred into your account for the 'baby fund' last month?!"
Damon stepped forward, placing a heavy, tattooed hand against Marcus’s chest and shoving him violently back onto the floor.
"Back off, loser," Damon sneered. "That money is already sitting in an offshore account in the Cayman Islands."
Penelope scoffed, adjusting her lipstick in a compact mirror. "Did you really think I loved you, Marcus? You're a pathetic, insecure man child who was so eager for a son to feed your ego that you believed every lie I told you. You threw away a brilliant, classy wife who protected you for years just for a bit of flattery!"
"I'll call the police! I'll put you both in prison!" Marcus shrieked, clutching his bruised chest.

"Go ahead and try," Penelope laughed coldly. "You signed those transfers voluntarily as 'unconditional personal gifts.' My lawyers will tie you up in court for ten years while you go completely bankrupt. Goodbye, Marcus. Thanks for financing our dream life in South America."
Damon picked up the suitcases, and the pair walked past Marcus, leaving him kneeling on the dusty floor of the ruined apartment, crying tears of sheer shame and despair.
