Chapter 4 - The House of Cards Collapses

By 8:00 p.m. that same evening, Marcus returned to his grand penthouse condo, exhausted, humiliated, and filled with rage. Penelope had fled the clinic during the screaming match between her and Roxanne, locking her phone and disappearing into the night.
"Don't worry, Marcus," Roxanne muttered as she poured herself a glass of expensive whiskey in the living room. "At least you got rid of Julianne and her useless kids. You still have your company and this penthouse. We can rebuild."
Before Marcus could answer, the front door lock chimed loudly.
Three men in sharp black suits stepped into the foyer, led by a stern-looking lawyer holding a stack of legal documents.
"Marcus Henderson?" the lawyer asked coldly.
"Who the hell are you?" Marcus snapped. "Get out of my house before I call the police!"
"This is no longer your house, Mr. Henderson," the attorney replied, handing him a red-stamped document. "I represent Kingsbridge Real Estate Corporation. This property never belonged to you. It was leased to you under a special revocable privilege granted by our primary shareholder, Mrs. Julianne Kingsbridge-Henderson."
Marcus’s heart stopped. "What... what did you just call her?"
"Mrs. Julianne Kingsbridge," the lawyer repeated sharply. "You have until midnight to remove your personal belongings. All luxury vehicles registered under the estate's lease—including the Mercedes GLS—have been repossessed as of one hour ago."
Just then, Marcus’s phone rang frantically. It was his Chief Financial Officer.
"Marcus! Where are you?!" the CFO yelled over the phone, panic evident in his voice. "All our bank lines just froze! The private investment fund that backed our ten-million-dollar expansion pulled out completely! They said their benefactor, Lady Kingsbridge, canceled all financial guarantees!"
Marcus stumbled backward, knocking over a crystal vase that shattered across the marble floor.

"Julianne..." he whispered, his voice trembling with terror. "Julianne was the investor?"
"Her entire family's legacy was built on her silent money!" Roxanne screamed in horror as the truth finally struck them like a physical blow.
