Chapter 3 - The True Heiress

While chaos erupted in the medical clinic, the international flight to London was soaring smoothly at 35,000 feet above the Atlantic Ocean.
In the ultra-luxurious First Class suite, Julianne adjusted the soft silk blanket over her seven-year-old son, Leo, and five-year-old daughter, Maya. Both children were fast asleep, exhausted from the sudden departure but peacefully unaware of the storm left behind.
A tall man in a bespoke charcoal suit walked down the aisle and bowed respectfully before Julianne. It was Arthur Pendelton, the senior trustee of the prestigious Kingsbridge Global Heritage Fund.
"Welcome home, Lady Julianne," Arthur said in a low, respectful tone. "Your late grandfather’s estate has been fully transferred to your name following the signing of your divorce decree. As per the terms of the trust, the moment you severed legal ties with Marcus Henderson, all restricted assets unlocked."
Julianne took a sip of warm chamomile tea, her eyes shining with calm determination.
"Is everything in place, Arthur?" she asked.
"Yes, Madam. The luxury condo Marcus believes he owns? The deed was held under Kingsbridge Real Estate—a subsidiary of your trust. We have already issued an immediate eviction notice effective at midnight. The Henderson Group’s major credit lines were also guaranteed by your personal collateral. We revoked all guarantees three minutes after your divorce papers were stamped."
For eight years, Julianne had lived as an unassuming housewife, deliberately concealing her vast inheritance from the Henderson family. Her grandfather had insisted on a trial of character: if Marcus loved her for who she was, the fortune would eventually enrich them both. But if Marcus proved narcissistic and cruel, Julianne was bound to protect her heritage and walk away.
Marcus had failed the test miserably.
"What about my children's trust funds?" Julianne inquired softly.

"Secured, my Lady," Arthur replied with a faint smile. "Leo and Maya are now the sole beneficiaries of a twelve-billion-dollar sovereign trust fund. Marcus Henderson no longer holds any legal guardianship or financial claim over them."
Julianne looked out the airplane window at the endless sea of clouds below. The meek, patient housewife was dead. The matriarch of the Kingsbridge empire had returned.
