Chapter 10 - A New Dawn and a Happy Ending

The study was in ruins. Shards of broken glass littered the Persian rug, and the heavy oak bookshelf was knocked off its track.

Alessandro stood in the center of the room, his charcoal suit stained with dust, a gun still smoking in his hand. His chest heaved as he stared at the steel door of the panic room.

With a frantic motion, he rushed over, punched the override code into the digital keypad, and yanked the heavy door open.

Lily stumbled out, clutching a terrified but unharmed Mia tightly in her arms. Before Lily could even speak, Alessandro dropped his weapon to the floor, reached out, and pulled both of them into his arms in a desperate, unbreakable embrace.

"Are you hurt?" Alessandro demanded, his voice shaking violently as his hands checked over Mia, then Lily, making sure they were truly safe. "Did they touch you?"

"We're okay," Lily sobbed, burying her face against his chest, finally letting go of all the terror she had held inside. "We're safe. Because of you."

Alessandro wrapped his arms around them both, pulling them so close it felt as though he wanted to fuse them into his very soul so no enemy could ever reach them again. He closed his eyes, and for the first time in three years, the memories of the explosion didn't bring fire and ash—they brought the realization that life had finally given him a second chance.

Three months later, the Moretti estate looked completely transformed.

The yellow room had been repainted a warm, cheerful cream, and the old crib had been replaced with a brand-new toddler bed. Downstairs in the grand dining room, the long walnut table no longer felt like a lonely tomb.

On a bright, crisp Saturday morning in February, the sun shone brilliantly through the stained-glass windows of St. Anthony's Cathedral. There were no black coffins this time. Instead, the church was filled with white roses, soft music, and the joyful laughter of invited guests.

At the altar stood Alessandro Moretti, dressed in a sharp black tuxedo, waiting with a nervous smile that completely erased the cold, ruthless mask he had worn for a decade.

Down the aisle walked Lily, radiant in a simple, elegant ivory dress. And running ahead of her, scattering white rose petals along the marble floor with wild enthusiasm, was little Mia, wearing a matching white dress with a pink sash.

As Mia reached the altar, she stopped right in front of Alessandro, looked up with her big, sparkling brown eyes, and raised her arms.

Without a moment's hesitation, Alessandro scooped the little girl up into his arms, kissed her cheek, and then turned his gaze toward Lily as she finally reached his side.

"Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?" the priest asked softly.

Alessandro looked into Lily's eyes, feeling a profound, everlasting peace settle deep into his soul. He tightened his grip on Mia with one arm, held Lily’s hand with the other, and smiled a genuine, radiant smile.

"I do," Alessandro said clearly, knowing that the darkness had finally lost, and his true family had finally come home.
