Chapter 7 - Unraveling the Web

With the abuser family locked away, Alex and Victoria turned their attention to stripping away every asset Trent had used to control me.

During our three-year marriage, Trent had forced me to sign financial documents under duress, isolating me from my personal savings and taking full control of the property I had inherited from my late parents.

"We hired a forensic accountant," Victoria told me one afternoon as we sat in my hospital recovery room. "Trent didn't just abuse you physically; he committed massive financial fraud. He took out three mortgages against your family home to fund his father's failed business ventures and his mother's gambling debts."

"Can... can we save the house?" I asked quietly. That house was built by my parents—the only place where I had ever felt truly safe before meeting Trent.

"We aren't just saving it, Clara," Victoria smiled, handing me a stack of legal documents. "Because all his assets were acquired through fraud and extortion, the court has placed an immediate freeze on all Mitchell family bank accounts. Under the Victims' Restitution Act, the deed to the property is being transferred back 100% into your name alone."

In addition, Nicole's streaming group was uncovered by federal investigators, leading to the arrest of three other individuals involved in online harassment rings. The entire toxic network Trent’s family relied on collapsed like a house of cards.

A month later, the trial concluded swiftly. Faced with overwhelming video evidence, medical reports, and forensic financial trails, all four defendants accepted non-negotiable plea deals to avoid life sentences without parole.

Trent Mitchell: Sentenced to 32 years in state penitentiary without the possibility of early parole.

Helen & Richard Mitchell: Sentenced to 15 years each for conspiracy and felony assault.

Nicole Mitchell: Sentenced to 8 years in medium-security detention.

When the final sentences were read, I felt an invisible, heavy weight fall off my shoulders. The nightmare was officially over.
