Chapter 4 - Extraction & Salvation

Before Trent could process the statement, Alex dragged him up by his collar and slammed him back-first onto the marble island.

"You touched my sister," Alex rasped, his voice dropping to a terrifying register. "You hit a pregnant woman with a weapon."

"Alex, no!" I managed to whisper, clutching his tactical pants. "Don't... don't ruin your life for him... save the baby..."

Alex paused instantly. The murderous rage in his eyes melted back into deep, protective desperation. He let go of Trent, who slumped to the floor, coughing violently.

Outside, the neighborhood erupted in flashing red and blue lights. Sirens blared, cutting through the early morning fog as four police cruisers and a specialized paramedic unit screeched to a halt in the driveway.

"Team, clear the threshold!" a voice boomed over a loudspeaker.

"In here!" Jax shouted back, maintaining his hold on Richard while Marcus secured Helen and Nicole.

Within seconds, armed officers and paramedics burst through the shattered front entrance. The lead officer took one look at the bloody scene—the broken stick, my state, and Trent cowering on the floor—and immediately drew his sidearm on Trent and Richard.

"Hands on your head! All of you! On the ground now!"

"Officer! They attacked us!" Helen shrieked, tears streaking her makeup. "They broke in and beat my son!"

"Shut up, ma'am!" the officer snapped, noticing the blood on Trent's hands and the stick on the floor. "Paramedics, move in!"

Two paramedics rushed to my side with a gurney. Alex stayed right beside me, holding my hand tightly as they carefully lifted me off the cold floor.

"Vitals are low! BP 85/50! We have active bleeding, potential placental abruption!" the female paramedic yelled into her radio. "Get St. Jude Medical Center on the line! Prepare Trauma Bay 1 and Emergency OB/GYN!"

As they wheeled me out toward the ambulance, I looked back one last time. Trent, Richard, Helen, and Nicole were all being forced down onto the cold, grease-stained floor, iron handcuffs clicking tightly around their wrists.

"You'll pay for this, Clara!" Trent screamed as his face was pressed into the floor. "You hear me?! You'll get nothing!"

"She gets everything," Alex said coldly, walking out behind my stretcher. "And you get life."
