Chapter 4 - The Fall of the Hero

The days following the BBQ were a whirlwind of legal warfare. Beatrice, refusing to accept defeat, went on a desperate social media campaign. She posted heavily edited photos of herself crying, claiming I was a "tyrannical brother" who was evicting a single mother and her daughter into the streets.
But she underestimated Eleanor Sterling.
On Tuesday morning, Eleanor filed a formal defamation lawsuit against Beatrice, alongside the criminal charges for child abuse and filing a false report to Child Protective Services. To back it up, we released the full, unedited audio recording to the local news.
The public backlash was swift and brutal.
The high-end salon where Beatrice worked was flooded with thousands of one-star reviews. Customers demanded she be fired, refusing to let a "child abuser" touch their hair. By Wednesday afternoon, the salon issued a public statement announcing Beatrice’s immediate termination.
I stood in Lily's new room at my apartment, watching her look at herself in the mirror. She was wearing a soft pink beanie I had bought her.
"Daddy," she whispered, her eyes shiny with unshed tears. "Am I still a princess?"
I knelt beside her, gently taking her small hands in mine. "Lily, being a princess isn't about having long hair. It’s about being brave, kind, and strong. And you are the bravest princess I have ever known. Your hair will grow back, but your beautiful heart never left."
A tiny, genuine smile cracked through her sadness. She hugged me tight around the neck. "I love you, Daddy."

"I love you more, sweetie. And I promise you, no one is ever going to hurt us again."
Meanwhile, Beatrice was finding out that her eviction was the least of her worries. Without a job, and with her bank accounts frozen due to my lawsuit to recover three years of unpaid rent—which totaled over $54,000—she was completely ruined.
