Chapter 1 - The Razor and the Recording

“You think you're pretty? Princesses turn ugly when their dads are just pathetic losers.” Those were the venomous words I heard on a hidden recording right after my own sister pinned down my 7-year-old daughter and shaved her head, only to play the hero online. She mocked me, claiming I wasn't man enough to stop her, and threw a massive BBQ party at the very house I paid for. I didn't yell. I just showed up to her perfect party with three very "special" guests. When she saw who they...
"Hold her hands down, Chloe. Little princesses need to learn they aren't special… You think you're pretty? Princesses turn ugly when their dads are just pathetic losers."
Those were the venomous words playing from a hidden recording on my seven-year-old daughter’s phone. Right in front of me, little Lily was sitting on her bed, trembling uncontrollably. Her beautiful, long brown curls were gone. Her head had been completely shaved.
My name is Arthur. Three years ago, I drained my savings to put a down payment on a house for my older sister, Beatrice, when her messy divorce almost left her homeless. The mortgage and deed were entirely in my name. She promised to pay the monthly rent, but only paid three times in three years. I covered everything else, swallowing her constant disrespect because "family is family."
That Saturday, Lily desperately wanted a "princess hairstyle" for a friend's birthday party. Knowing Beatrice worked at a high-end salon, I dropped Lily off. Before I left, Lily hugged me tight. "Daddy, when you come back, I’m going to look like a princess!"
I never imagined Beatrice would turn her innocence into a sick, calculated performance. Before I even picked Lily up, Beatrice posted a video to our family group chat. She was hugging a sobbing Lily, lying that my daughter got "industrial gum" tangled in her hair at the park and had to be shaved to "save her scalp." The entire extended family immediately praised Beatrice as a hero.
But Beatrice didn't know Lily had left her old phone recording a TikTok dance in the guest room. It captured the horrifying audio: the cousins giggling, Lily begging them to stop, and Beatrice’s cruel words as she pinned my crying child down.
When I confronted her, Beatrice struck first. To protect her "hero" image, she made an anonymous, horrific lie to Child Protective Services to get my daughter taken away. Feeling untouchable, she hosted a massive family BBQ that weekend to flaunt her fake victimhood to the whole family.
I didn't argue. I didn't yell.

I let her plan her perfect party at the house I owned.
Right in the middle of her toast, I walked into the backyard. And when Beatrice saw exactly who I brought with me, the champagne glass slipped from her hand and shattered, all the color draining from her face...
