Chapter 8 - Deleting the Illusion

For the next two hours, the pastel pink living room became the site of a very different kind of broadcast.

With David watching closely and refusing to let her out of his sight, Vanessa sat at her computer with shaking fingers. One by one, she logged into her accounts.

First came the Starlight channel. She hit delete, permanently erasing the archives of her toxic parasocial kingdom. Next came TikTok, followed by the Golden Morning Mama Instagram account, which boasted over three hundred thousand followers.

When she hovered her mouse over the final “Confirm Account Deletion” button, she paused, looking back at us with a desperate, pleading look. “Please… can’t we just archive it? Can’t I just take a break?”

“Delete it,” David said flatly, placing his hand over hers and clicking the mouse.

The screen flickered, and in an instant, Golden Morning Mama vanished from the internet forever. The carefully curated breakfasts, the pastel pajamas, the thousands of adoring comments—all gone into the digital void, leaving behind only a blank screen and a very quiet house.

Next, Vanessa recorded the confession video on David’s phone, speaking in a flat, monotone voice as she admitted to fabricating the spa day narrative and coercing both children for online engagement. David saved the file securely, promising to release it publicly if Vanessa ever attempted to create a new online persona under a different name.

When I finally walked out to my car to drive home, the weight on my shoulders didn't magically vanish, but the suffocating darkness had lifted. The illusion was shattered. Reality, messy and real, had finally broken through the pastel walls.
