Chapter 6 - Justice and Redemption

Julian Vance looked from the holographic server logs to the terrifyingly calm expression on Claire’s face. He realized he had nowhere left to run. The doors were locked, his security was neutralized, and the digital evidence was airtight.
"You... you can't prove I ordered it used on a child," Julian stammered, his facade completely crumbling into desperate panic. "It was just an R&D prototype! It was a mistake!"
"A mistake that stole six years of my daughter's life," Claire said. She pulled out her phone and tapped a single icon. "Marcus, call the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney. Tell them we have a full confession on recording, backed by physical and digital evidence."
Within twenty minutes, federal agents swarmed the Vance Bio-Tech tower. Julian Vance was led out of his own office in handcuffs, his head bowed in disgrace as flashbulbs from arriving media outlets blinded him in the hallway. Westbrook Enterprises immediately absorbed Vance Bio-Tech through emergency receivership, dismantling Julian’s corrupt empire once and for all.
Back in the penthouse office, the chaos of the arrests faded into a profound, peaceful quiet.
Ellie stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, looking out over the sprawling Manhattan skyline. The morning sunlight caught her hair, and for the first time in her life, she wasn't just watching the city move behind glass—she was listening to it.
She turned around, her face lit up with a brilliant, breathless smile.
"Mom!" Ellie called out, her voice echoing happily in the large room. "I can hear the cars! I can hear the birds way up here!"
Claire rushed over, dropping to her knees and sweeping Ellie into a tight, fierce embrace. Tears of pure happiness streamed down Claire's face as she kissed the top of her daughter's head. "I know, my sweet angel. I know."
Logan stood a few paces back, watching them with a quiet, genuine smile. He turned toward the door, slipping his hands into his jacket pockets. His shift was over. The job was done. It was time for him to head home, pick up Ben from school, and return to his normal life.
"Logan," Claire’s voice stopped him.
He paused, turning back. Claire was holding Ellie’s hand, both of them looking at him with deep, heartfelt gratitude.
"You're not leaving yet, are you?" Claire asked softly.
"My shift ended hours ago, Ms. Westbrook," Logan said with a gentle shrug. "And I have a seven-year-old boy waiting for me to pick him up from school."
Claire walked over to him, stopping just a foot away. The fierce corporate titan was gone; standing before him was a mother whose world had been restored.
"Bring him," Claire said, a warm, radiant smile breaking across her face. "Bring Ben to the estate this afternoon. Ellie wants to show him her favorite garden. And... I think we have a lot more to talk about."

Logan looked down at Ellie, who waved enthusiastically at him, and then back at Claire. For the first time in three years, a heavy weight lifted from his shoulders.
"We'd love that," Logan said softly.
