Chapter 5 - The Aftermath

As the federal agents systematically hauled the Vance family out of their own estate in front of their horrified, weeping friends, the lead agent walked over and knelt beside me.
"Are you alright, Mrs. Vance? The paramedics have an ambulance waiting outside. We can get you to the hospital immediately."
I smiled, letting the EMTs gently help me to my feet. My legs were steady. My mind was sharper than ever. "I'm perfectly fine, Agent Miller. And it's Clara. Just Clara."
The next few weeks were a blur of legal depositions, medical checkups, and corporate dismantling. With the evidence I provided, the courts moved with unprecedented speed. The Vance family assets—every mansion, every luxury car, every offshore holding—were frozen within forty-eight hours under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
Arthur and Julian were denied bail, remanded to a maximum-security federal holding facility while awaiting trial on charges that practically guaranteed they would spend the rest of their natural lives behind bars. Without their stolen fortunes to protect them, their high-priced defense attorneys abandoned them within a month.
Beatrice, stripped of every cent of her ill-gotten wealth, was forced to vacate the estate and move into a cramped, dilapidated motel on the gritty industrial outskirts of the city—a stark contrast to the gilded cages she had built for herself.

As for Chloe, the moment the Vance accounts were frozen and the credit cards declined, she vanished without a trace, leaving Julian to rot in a federal cell alone.
The media circus was immense. Headlines screamed FALL OF THE VANCE EMPIRE and THE SILENT WIFE WHO BROUGHT DOWN A BILLION-DOLLAR FRAUD. But I ignored the noise. My focus remained entirely on the nursery I was painting in a quiet, sunlit coastal home far away from the smog and corruption of the city.
