Chapter 8 - Justice Served

Outside the grand estate, the morning sun was beginning to break over the manicured hedges, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold and amber. The wailing sirens of federal police cruisers and ambulance units filled the crisp air, signaling the end of the nightmare.
The courtyard was a scene of controlled chaos. Federal agents in tactical gear escorted Alistair Vance and his surviving mercenaries away in heavy titanium cuffs. The old chemist walked slowly, leaning heavily on his silver cane, his head bowed in absolute defeat as his grand empire of vengeance crumbled into dust around him.
Isabella was dragged out next, screaming obscenities and cursing her uncle for his incompetence as female officers bundled her into the back of a black transport van. Her reign of terror within the Benadetti household was over forever.
Inside the mansion, the heavy silence of fear had been replaced by a quiet, profound peace.
Marco walked down the grand marble hallway, his footsteps light and unhurried. He pushed open the door to the private medical suite.
Sophia lay peacefully in the pristine white bed, her pale cheeks regaining a soft, natural flush. Her dark hair fanned out across the pillows, and her steady, rhythmic breathing filled the quiet room. Maria sat beside the bed, softly stroking the little girl's hand with tears of relief streaming down her weathered face.
As Marco entered, Maria looked up and quickly stood, bowing her head respectfully. "Sir... she's resting. The doctor said the antitoxin worked completely. She's going to make a full recovery."
Marco nodded, walking over to the bedside. He gently placed his large, calloused hand over his daughter's small, warm fingers. The terrifying coldness that had gripped his soul since the previous night finally melted away, replaced by an overwhelming wave of gratitude and fierce, protective love.
Victor stood quietly by the doorway, leaning against the frame with his hat in his hands.
"You're leaving," Marco stated quietly, not turning around as he spoke to his late wife's brother.
"My debt is paid, Marco," Victor replied softly. "Alistair and his network will spend the rest of their natural lives in a maximum-security federal black site. They'll never see the light of day again."
Marco turned his head, looking at the man who had secretly protected his family from the shadows for over a decade. He walked over and extended a hand—not as a fearful Don commanding a syndicate, but as a grateful father and an ally.
"Thank you, Victor," Marco said sincerely. "For Elena. And for Sophia."

Victor looked down at Marco's outstretched hand, a faint, genuine smile touching his lips. He reached out and gripped Marco's hand firmly. "Take care of my niece, Marco. She's the best part of all of us."
With a quiet nod, Victor turned and slipped out of the room, disappearing into the morning light just as quietly as he had arrived.
