Chapter 10 - The Eternal Vow

Spring arrived at the Carmel estate, bringing with it a tide of blooming wildflowers and soft, warm ocean breezes.

The backyard, overlooking the cliffside and the sparkling blue ocean below, was decorated with arches of white roses and baby's breath. A small, intimate gathering of fifty close friends, foundation staff, and trusted allies sat along the stone pathway.

It was not a grand political spectacle or a dark secret gathering. It was a celebration of love, redemption, and new beginnings.

Dante stood at the altar under the white rose arch. He looked striking in a tailored charcoal tuxedo, his dark hair neatly styled. Beside him stood Leo, who had traded his dark tactical gear for a fine suit, serving proudly as Dante’s best man.

The music shifted to a gentle, acoustic melody played by a string quartet.

Sophia walked down the aisle first, dressed as the flower girl. She wore a frilly white dress with a pink sash, throwing rose petals onto the stone path with wild enthusiasm, missing the path entirely and showering the guests in petals, causing warm laughter to ripple through the audience.

And then, Elena appeared.

Dante’s breath caught in his throat.

She was breathtaking. Elena wore an off-the-shoulder gown of ivory lace that flowed down into a long, dramatic train. She held a bouquet of white peonies and lavender. Her face was illuminated by a joy so pure and bright it seemed to light up the entire coastline.

She walked down the aisle alone—not because she had no one to walk her, but because she had walked through the darkest storms of her life on her own feet, and she was stepping into her future by her own strength.

When she reached the altar, Dante stepped forward, taking both of her hands in his.

The justice of the peace smiled at the couple. "We are gathered here today to unite Dante Moretti and Elena Santos in marriage."

When the time came for the vows, Dante took a deep breath. He held Elena’s hands tightly, looking straight into her eyes.

"Elena," Dante began, his voice deep and emotion-filled. "I lived the first half of my life in a world of darkness, where trust was a weakness and power was everything. I thought I knew who I was. But that night, in a forgotten store under buzzing lights, I saw a woman who had every reason to break, but refused to give up. You taught me what love really means. You gave me a family. You gave me a soul. I promise to honor you, protect you, and stand by your side through every storm, for the rest of my days."

Tears glistened in Elena’s eyes as she smiled through her joy.

"Dante," Elena said softly, her voice steady and true. "When you walked into my life, I was terrified, hopeless, and completely alone. You didn't just save me from that floor—you gave me a sanctuary. You showed me that real danger isn't a man who carries power, but a man who uses it to protect those who have none. You became Sophia’s father, my best friend, and my safe harbor. I give you my heart, my life, and my eternal love."

"By the power vested in me," the justice declared with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Dante, you may kiss your bride."

Dante didn't hesitate. He pulled Elena into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her deeply, surrounded by the roar of the ocean waves and the loud, joyous cheers of their loved ones.

Sophia ran up to them, wrapping her tiny arms around both of their legs. Dante pulled Elena back up and reached down, lifting Sophia up between them so they could share a warm, three-person embrace.
