Chapter 6 - A New Dawn in Chicago

Three weeks later, the day finally arrived.

Leo Castiglione was officially discharged from the NICU. He weighed a healthy six pounds and two ounces, his lungs were strong, and his pediatric reports were flawless.

Dominic arrived at the hospital not in his usual imposing black suit, but in a casual cashmere sweater and dark jeans. He looked relaxed, younger, and incredibly happy. Beside him were his security team, but today, they carried baby bags and plush toys instead of tension.

Clara prepared the discharge paperwork, her heart feeling bittersweet. She was thrilled to see Leo go home healthy, but she knew his departure meant she would no longer see Dominic every day.

"All set," Clara said, handing over the clipboard. "He needs to be fed every three hours, and make sure to keep his pediatrician appointments."

Dominic signed the papers, then looked up at her. "We have a problem, Clara."

Clara blinked. "A problem? What's wrong?"

"My home has the best security, the best nursery, and the best pediatric equipment money can buy," Dominic said, a small, knowing smile playing on his lips. "But it lacks the most important thing."

"What's that?"

"A dedicated, brilliant, and incredibly beautiful pediatric nurse to oversee his transition. I want to hire you, Clara. Not as hospital staff, but as Leo's private medical supervisor. Name your salary."

Clara stared at him, her heart doing a joyous flip. "Dominic... I have a career here."

"I know," he said softly, taking her hands in his. "And I would never ask you to give up your passion. But you can consult, run your own clinic, do whatever you wish. I will fund a brand-new pediatric wing in your name at St. Jude. Just... don't walk out of our lives. Leo needs you. And so do I."

Clara looked from Dominic's hopeful eyes to baby Leo, who was happily sleeping in his car seat.

She smiled, tears of happiness pricking her eyes. "On one condition."

"Anything," Dominic said instantly.

"I get to choose the color of the new pediatric wing."

Dominic laughed, pulling her into his arms. "Deal."
