Chapter 9 - A Family United
The wedding took place the following spring on the sprawling lawns of the Moretti estate, exactly where Adrian and Ellie had planted those tulip bulbs months earlier.
The garden was a breathtaking explosion of vibrant reds, yellows, and whites. Only a small, select group of trusted friends, estate staff, and loyal associates attended the intimate ceremony.
As the string quartet played a soft, elegant melody, the doors of the grand conservatory opened.
Hannah walked down the floral-lined aisle, looking stunning in a classic, elegant ivory lace dress. But what brought tears to the eyes of nearly everyone in attendance was the little flower girl walking right beside her.
Four-year-old Ellie wore a matching ivory dress with a pink silk sash, tossing delicate rose petals onto the green grass with solemn, joyful concentration. Tucked securely into her pink rabbit backpack, which she refused to leave behind even for a wedding, was Rosie.
Adrian stood at the altar, dressed in a sharp tailored suit, watching them approach with a look of pure, unadulterated happiness on his face. The cold, feared mafia boss of New York was entirely gone; in his place stood a devoted husband and a fiercely protective father.
As Hannah reached the altar, Adrian took her hands in his, whispering, “You are the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me.”
“And you are my safe harbor,” Hannah replied with a radiant smile.
The exchange of vows was simple, deeply emotional, and filled with promises of enduring love and protection. When the officiant finally pronounced them husband and wife, Adrian kissed Hannah tenderly as applause and cheers echoed through the garden.
Ellie ran forward, wrapping her small arms around Adrian’s leg.
“Can I call you Daddy now?” she asked loudly, looking up with her big gray-blue eyes.
Adrian knelt down, scooping Ellie up into his arms and lifting her high into the air as she giggled with delight.
