Chapter 6 - Midnight at the Docks

The cold wind whipped off the East River, carrying the sharp scent of salt, diesel, and impending violence.

Pier 42 in Queens sat shrouded in darkness, illuminated only by the harsh yellow glare of overhead security lights. Rows of towering metal shipping containers lined the concrete expanse, casting long, menacing shadows.

A convoy of three black SUVs slid silently through the open gates, stopping near the edge of the water. Doors flew open, and a dozen heavily armed men stepped out, led by Marco Rossi’s top enforcer, a brutal ex-mercenary named Viktor.

“Move fast,” Viktor barked, gesturing toward the main warehouse. “The boss wants Moretti’s shipping records burned to the ground. If anyone gets in your way, put them down.”

They moved in formation toward the warehouse doors, weapons raised. But as they reached the threshold, the overhead lights suddenly flickered and died, plunging the entire pier into pitch blackness.

“What the hell?” Viktor muttered, raising his rifle. “Generator failure? Secure the perimeter!”

Before his men could react, the silence was shattered by the deafening roar of automatic gunfire—not from the front, but from all around them.

From atop the towering shipping containers, Moretti’s elite security force opened fire with precision suppressors, raining tactical dominance down upon the syndicate members. Smoke grenades exploded across the concrete, filling the air with thick, blinding white fog.

Viktor cursed loudly, firing blindly into the smoke. “Ambush! Fall back to the—`”

He didn't finish his sentence.

A heavy boot stepped out of the smoke, kicking Viktor’s rifle out of his hands with blinding speed. Before the mercenary could recover, a gloved hand grabbed him by the collar and slammed him violently against the side of a steel container.

Adrian Moretti stood in the dim moonlight, his dark trench coat billowing in the river wind. His eyes were cold, dead, and utterly merciless.

“You—” Viktor choked out, recognizing the face of the man he was sent to destroy.

“Tell Marco Rossi his time is up,” Adrian whispered, his voice sending a shiver straight down the mercenary's spine.

With a single, effortless motion, Adrian struck Viktor across the jaw, knocking him unconscious instantly. Around them, the rest of the Rossi enforcers were disarmed, zip-tied, and pinned to the ground within minutes. Not a single Moretti guard had a scratch on them.

Frank walked up beside Adrian, wiping a speck of dust from his sleeve. “All secured, boss. The simultaneous raids on Rossi’s warehouses in Brooklyn and Manhattan were a complete success. His entire operation is paralyzed.”

Adrian looked out over the dark river, the cold night air brushing against his face. For the first time in years, he felt a profound sense of absolute control. His house was safe. Ellie and Hannah were safe.

And the war was over before it even truly began.
