Chapter 8 - The Proposal

Six months passed like a peaceful dream within the walls of the Sands Point estate.

The Rossi syndicate had been completely dismantled, its leaders imprisoned or scattered to the winds. The threat that had hung over New York’s underworld had vanished, replaced by the undisputed, absolute peace enforced by Adrian Moretti.

Inside the mansion, everything had changed. The cold, lifeless mausoleum had transformed into a vibrant home filled with laughter, the sound of tiny footsteps, and the warmth of genuine human connection.

Hannah had transitioned from housekeeper to the estate’s general manager, running the household with grace and intelligence, while Adrian increasingly found himself cutting his office hours short just to come home early for dinner with Ellie.

One crisp autumn evening, after Ellie had fallen asleep upstairs clutching Rosie, Adrian asked Hannah to join him out on the grand stone terrace overlooking the cold gray water of the Sound.

The night air was cool, but a towering outdoor fireplace cast a warm, flickering glow across the patio.

Adrian handed Hannah a crystal glass of sparkling cider. She took it with a soft smile, her eyes reflecting the dancing flames.

“You’ve brought life back into this house, Hannah,” Adrian said quietly, leaning against the stone balustrade beside her. “For three years, I walked through these halls like a ghost. I thought my life ended the day I lost Elena and Lily. I believed I was only meant to exist in the dark.”

Hannah turned to look at him, her heart skipping a beat at the raw vulnerability in his voice. “You survived, Adrian. And you built a sanctuary—not just for yourself, but for us.”

Adrian turned to face her, his dark eyes shining with a deep, unwavering certainty. He reached out, gently taking her hand in his. Her skin was warm, contrasting against the cool autumn night.

“When Ellie saved my life with her last EpiPen, I thought it was just a miracle of coincidence,” Adrian said softly. “Now I know it was fate. You and Ellie didn't just save my life that day—you gave me a heart again. You gave me a family.”

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, elegant velvet box, opening it to reveal a magnificent diamond ring that caught the flickering firelight.

“Hannah Carter,” Adrian said, dropping gracefully to one knee on the stone terrace. “Will you and Ellie stay in this house—and in my heart—forever? Will you marry me?”

Hannah’s breath hitched in her throat. Tears welled in her eyes, blurring the edges of the terrace, the fire, and the man kneeling before her. She didn't hesitate for a single second.

“Yes, Adrian,” she whispered, her voice trembling with overflowing joy. “Yes, a thousand times yes.”

Adrian slid the ring onto her finger, standing up to pull her into his arms. He kissed her gently, sealing a promise that would weather any storm the world could ever throw their way.
