Chapter 10 - Forever Home

Tears welled in my eyes, blurring the sparkling lights of the grand ballroom as I looked at the man who had protected us, cherished us, and completely rewritten his own destiny.

"Yes," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion. "Yes, Damian. A thousand times, yes."

A triumphant, radiant smile broke across Damian’s face—the happiest and most genuine smile I had ever seen on him. He slid the ring onto my finger, pulling me into a deep, tender embrace as the surrounding guests erupted into thunderous applause and cheers.

Across the room, Lila caught sight of what was happening. Her face lit up with pure joy. Dropping her half-eaten strawberry, she hurried across the polished marble floor in her little red velvet shoes, her pink hearing aid flashing in the light.

She tugged gently at the hem of Damian’s tuxedo trousers, and he immediately knelt down, lifting her effortlessly into his arms.

Lila looked back and forth between the two of us, her bright hazel eyes shining with excitement. She quickly formed the sign for family with her tiny hands, pressing her fingers together in a tight, inseparable circle, before leaning forward to plant an enthusiastic kiss on Damian’s cheek.

Damian chuckled, his eyes glistening with unshed tears of pure happiness, as he pressed his forehead against hers. "Yes, sweet girl," he whispered softly, his voice thick with emotion. "Family. Forever."

And as the music played on beneath the starlit Baltimore sky, the dark fortress of Grayhaven House was finally filled with the brightest, warmest light imaginable—a home where love had conquered all, and where our happily ever after had only just begun.
