Chapter 8 - The First Milestone

Months passed, and the quadruplets reached their first major milestone: their first birthday.

The Greenwich estate, once a cold fortress of isolation, was now bustling with life, laughter, and guests. Friends, business associates, and close family friends gathered on the sprawling back lawn under white celebratory tents.

Four high chairs stood side by side on the patio, piled high with colorful cupcakes decorated with bright blue and pink frosting.

Ava, Owen, Miles, and Sophie were steady on their feet, toddling across the grass with joyful shrieks as Clara chased after them with a camera.

Ethan stood near the edge of the patio, holding a glass of sparkling water, watching his children play. Nathan walked up beside him, handing him a small wrapped box.

"Happy first birthday to the quadruplets," Nathan said, smiling. "And congratulations to the father who finally learned how to delegate."

Ethan unwrapped the small box to reveal a custom-engraved silver pocket watch. Inside the casing, an inscription read: To Ethan Caldwell — The man who won the most important negotiation of his life.

Ethan looked up, deeply touched. "Thanks, Nathan. That means a lot."

Clara walked over, wiping a smear of frosting off Sophie’s cheek while holding Ava’s hand. She looked at Ethan with a warm, knowing smile. "Well, Mr. Caldwell, are you ready to sing?"

Ethan looked at his four healthy, laughing children, then at the portrait of Nora framed near the patio doors, smiling down at them all. The haunting shadows of the past had finally transformed into a legacy of love.

"Ready," Ethan said, stepping forward to scoop up Owen and Miles. "Let's make some noise."
