Chapter 9 - Blossoms in the Snow

By the time winter arrived, the mansion was no longer a cold, sterile fortress. It was filled with warmth, laughter, and the sweet aroma of Maria’s baking. Daniel had funded her dream, helping her purchase a small, charming bakery in the heart of the city, which she managed part-time while spending the rest of her days with Sophia and Daniel.
One evening, as the first snow of the year began to fall gently outside, Daniel took Maria’s hand and led her to the grand conservatory. The room was filled with beautiful, blooming white orchids—Claire’s favorite flowers.
"I brought you here because I wanted to be honest with you," Daniel said, looking into Maria’s eyes. "I will always love Claire. She was a beautiful part of my past. But she is my past, Maria. You... you and Sophia are my present and my future. You healed a man who was dead inside. You taught me how to love again."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. Inside was a stunning, delicate ring with a sapphire surrounded by tiny diamonds—like a drop of blue sky surrounded by stars.
"Maria Alvarez, will you marry me? Will you let me be Sophia’s father in every way, and will you be my wife?"
Maria’s eyes filled with tears of pure joy. She looked at the man who had gone from a distant stranger to her protector, her partner, and her greatest love.
"Yes, Daniel," she whispered, throwing her arms around his neck. "A thousand times, yes."
From the doorway of the conservatory, a sleepy little girl in footie pajamas rubbed her eyes, holding her favorite teddy bear. She looked at her mommy and daddy hugging, and a giant smile spread across her face.

"Group hug!" Sophia squealed, running forward.
Daniel and Maria laughed, kneeling down together to scoop their daughter into their arms, holding her tight between them as the snow fell softly outside.
