Chapter 6 - The Siege of the Rail Yard

Midnight fell over the South Chicago rail yards like a heavy shroud of black velvet. Snow began to drift down from the starless sky, settling softly over abandoned cargo containers and rusted freight tracks.
A convoy of four matte-black SUVs cut their lights half a mile out, rolling silently toward the sprawling, corrugated-steel warehouse where Viktor Vance had established his temporary stronghold.
Inside the lead vehicle, Adrian Cole sat in the back seat, adjusting the suppressor on his custom rifle with mechanical precision. His face was carved from granite, every trace of emotion stripped away, leaving only the cold, calculated apex predator who ruled the underworld.
Grant Mercer sat in the passenger seat, tapping the screen of a tactical tablet. “Thermal imaging shows at least twenty armed combatants inside the main floor, Boss. Vance is on the second-floor mezzanine office overlooking the loading docks.”
“Cut the power to the compound,” Adrian ordered quietly.
“Done.”
With a sudden, massive blackout, the floodlights illuminating the rail yard flickered and died, plunging the entire warehouse complex into total darkness.
Before Viktor’s guards could even grab their night-vision gear, Adrian’s tactical teams breached the perimeter. Heavy iron doors were blown off their hinges with synchronized breaching charges, and flashbangs detonated inside with deafening concussive roars that shook the freezing ground.
Adrian moved through the chaos like a ghost. Dressed in tactical black, his movements were fluid, precise, and lethally efficient. Men who tried to raise weapons against him found themselves disarmed and neutralized before they could even pull a trigger.
He climbed the steel staircase leading to the second-floor mezzanine, kicking open the reinforced office door where Viktor Vance stood holding a satellite phone, panic flashing across his scarred face.
“Adrian,” Viktor gasped, dropping the phone as he scrambled for the pistol resting on his desk.
Before Viktor’s fingers could brush the grip, Adrian’s rifle barrel was pressed firmly against the center of his former partner's forehead.
“It’s over, Viktor,” Adrian said, his voice terrifyingly calm in the echoing silence of the room.
Viktor froze, his hands slowly rising into the air, a twisted, desperate smile spreading across his lips.
“You think killing me solves this, Cole?” Viktor laughed bitterly. “My men have backup protocols. Even if I die tonight, your wife and your little unborn brat are already marked. They’ll hunt her down in Atlanta, in Chicago, anywhere in the world—”
Adrian didn't let him finish. With a swift, brutal sweep of his boot, he kicked Viktor’s legs out from under him, sending the traitor crashing hard onto the concrete floor. Adrian stepped down hard on Viktor’s wrist, pinning him in place as he leaned over him.
“My wife and my daughter are under my protection now,” Adrian whispered, his eyes blazing with absolute fury. “And anyone who so much as speaks their name in vain will join you in hell.”

Grant entered the office a moment later, nodding respectfully. “The compound is secure, Boss. All of Vance’s lieutenants have surrendered or been neutralized.”
“Tie him up and throw him in the transport,” Adrian ordered, stepping away from the groaning traitor. “Hand him over to federal authorities with a complete file on his trafficking operations. Let the courts finish what we started. I’m going home.”
