Chapter 9 - The Celebration

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow across the estate, guests began to gather around the central patio.
Arthur Bell stepped up to the microphone set up near the garden gazebo, tapping it gently to get everyone's attention. The murmurs and laughter died down as the elderly house manager smiled warmly toward the crowd.
"Ladies and gentlemen, family and friends," Arthur began, his voice steady and resonant. "For many years, this estate was known as a fortress of silence and shadows. Some believed that certain men, once broken by tragedy, could never find their way back into the light."
Julian stood a few feet away, holding Claire’s hand tightly. He felt a familiar lump in his throat, but instead of bitterness, it was filled with profound gratitude.
"Today," Arthur continued, his eyes twinkling as he glanced toward Julian and Ellie, "we celebrate something far greater than business or survival. We celebrate family, resilience, and the miraculous fact that sometimes, the hardest hearts in the world are easily conquered by a three-year-old girl with a broken cookie."
A chorus of warm applause erupted across the lawn.
Ellie, noticing everyone looking at them, grinned widely and ran over, grabbing the hem of Julian’s trousers. Julian chuckled, kneeling down on one knee—steadying himself with his cane—and picked her up, resting her on his hip.

"Did you hear that, Mr. Julian?" Ellie asked brightly. "They're clapping for us."
"They're clapping for you, kiddo," Julian whispered, pressing his forehead gently against hers. "You saved us all."
