Six months later, our lives had returned to a vibrant, joyful normal—only better.
With the whistleblower reward and the return of David's professional reputation, he accepted a high-level executive position with a major tech firm in the city, one that valued his integrity and brilliance. We decided to celebrate our new beginning by doing something we had dreamed of for years: we packed our bags and took a three-week family vacation to the Swiss Alps.
Standing on a sunlit balcony overlooking a breathtaking valley of snow-capped mountains and green pine forests, I took a deep breath of the crisp, clean mountain air.
Lily was down in the courtyard below, laughing and tossing snowballs with David, her bright red jacket standing out vibrantly against the white snow. She looked happy, carefree, and completely safe—the way every twelve-year-old girl deserves to be.
David looked up from the courtyard, catching my eye, and smiled that warm, familiar smile that had first made me fall in love with him all those years ago. He waved for me to come down and join them.
