Chapter 9 - A New Dawn at the Moretti Estate

The morning sun rose over Long Island with a fierce, brilliant clarity, washing the September mist away from the stone lions at the front gate and turning the dew-kissed lawns into a sea of sparkling diamonds.
Inside the grand dining room, the long walnut table looked different. It wasn't just occupied by one man sitting in cold isolation anymore.
At the head of the table sat Alessandro Moretti, wearing a tailored charcoal suit as always, but his hair was slightly less rigid, and a soft, genuine warmth hovered around the corners of his mouth. Across from him sat Lily, dressed in a simple, elegant blouse Signora Greco had helped her pick out from the estate's private wardrobe reserves. And right between them, sitting in a high chair that hadn't been used in three years, was Clara, happily spooning oatmeal into her mouth while her one-eared rabbit sat propped up against the water glass.
Signora Greco stood near the pantry door, watching the scene unfold with a wide, tearful smile on her wrinkled face. For the first time in three years, the Moretti estate didn't feel like a mausoleum. It felt like a home.
Alessandro lifted his small white espresso cup with the thin blue rim, taking a slow sip. He looked across the table at Lily, who offered him a soft, reassuring smile.
"The board meeting in Manhattan can wait," Alessandro said quietly, setting his cup down. "I have more important things to attend to today."
Lily raised an eyebrow, a playful hint of a smile touching her lips. "Oh? And what could possibly be more important than the Brooklyn docks and the Atlantic City casinos?"
Alessandro reached across the polished walnut table. His large, warm hand hovered for a second before Lily slid her fingers gently into his palm, intertwining their hands right in front of the morning sun streaming through the window.
"Teaching a certain little girl how to ride a bicycle in the rose garden," Alessandro replied, his gray-blue eyes sparkling with a life that had finally returned from the dead.

Clara paused mid-bite, her hazel eyes going wide with excitement as she banged her spoon against the high chair tray. "Yay! Bicycle! Can the bunny ride too?"
"Of course the bunny can ride too," Alessandro laughed—a rich, booming sound that echoed through the high-vaulted ceilings of the mansion, chasing away the last lingering shadows of the past.
