Chapter 7 - A New Foundation

By autumn, Daniel’s small business had stabilized. They were living within their means, paying off their debts step by step. The stress had not disappeared, but it had forged a stronger bond between Daniel and Claire. They no longer relied on Margaret’s wealth to shield them from adulthood.

In November, Daniel invited Margaret to his new townhouse for Thanksgiving.

When Margaret arrived at the front door, carrying a homemade pumpkin pie, she stood on the porch for a moment, memories of Christmas Eve lingering in her mind. She rang the bell.

The door opened wide immediately.

"Welcome, Mom," Daniel said, stepping aside and pulling her into a tight, warm hug. "Come on in. This is your house too."
