Chapter 10 - A Future Full of Hope

Five years later.

The morning sun filtered through the kitchen window, casting golden streaks across the wooden floor. A little girl with dark, curly hair and bright, laughing eyes chased our golden retriever through the back door.

"Mommy! Look what I drew!" Hope cheered, running up to me and holding up a piece of paper. It was a drawing of three people holding hands under a gigantic, smiling yellow sun.

I knelt down, catching her in my arms, inhaling the sweet, clean scent of her hair. I pressed a deep kiss to her cheek, feeling the steady, strong, perfectly healthy thumping of her heart against my chest.

Ethan walked in from the garden, carrying a basket of fresh strawberries, his arms wrapping around both of us from behind. He kissed the top of my head, his eyes reflecting the deep, unshakable peace we had fought so hard to achieve.

My mother had treated my belly like a piggy bank, believing that violence and intimidation could break anything. But she had failed to realize that some things are entirely unbreakable. The love of a mother for her child isn't a fragile glass jar—it is an armor, an ironclad case, a force that can move mountains and rewrite tragedies into beautiful new beginnings.

As I looked at my husband and my beautiful, thriving daughter, I knew the ledger was completely balanced. Justice had been served, the past was locked away in a dark cell, and our future was boundless, bright, and full of beautiful, unyielding hope.
