Chapter 7 - A New Horizon

Two years after the picnic that changed my life, I decided it was time to reclaim the memory that had started it all.

I booked a two-week vacation at the exact beachfront resort with the octopus water slide—the one Oliver had cried over two years ago. This time, there were no extra rooms for people who didn't appreciate us. There were no hidden agendas, no tiptoeing around fragile adult egos, and no subtle insults disguised as concern.

Standing on the balcony of our oceanfront suite, watching the waves crash against the shore, I felt a deep, profound sense of peace.

"Mommy, look!" Oliver shouted, pointing toward the pool area down below. The massive, colorful octopus slide glistened under the bright tropical sun. "Can we go now? Can we?"

"Get your swim trunks, buddy," I smiled, holding back tears of joy.

He didn't have to pack his bag in secret this time. He didn't have to worry about making too much noise or being "too much." He was loved unconditionally, completely, and fiercely.
