Faced with undeniable video and audio evidence, both Evelyn and Melissa entered guilty pleas to avoid lengthy prison sentences.
Evelyn Harper was convicted of felony child abuse and falsifying police reports. She was sentenced to two years in state prison, followed by three years of strict probation.
Melissa Harper was convicted of criminal conspiracy and misuse of the emergency 911 system. She received a suspended prison sentence, 500 hours of community service, and a heavy civil fine that forced her to sell her home to pay legal costs.
In addition, Sarah filed a civil lawsuit on behalf of Lily and me for intentional infliction of emotional distress and trespass. The court awarded us a monetary judgment that completely liquidated Evelyn’s remaining retirement savings, placing it into a clean, untouchable educational trust for Lily.
