Chapter 4 - Cold Evidence

I pulled up the footage from the living room and entryway cameras starting from the day I left for Denver. What I saw made my blood run cold.

Evelyn and Melissa hadn't spent the week caring for Lily. They had spent the week going through my file cabinets.

On Tuesday's video footage, I watched my mother sit at my desk, opening folders containing my mortgage deeds, my late husband’s life insurance trust documents, and my financial portfolios. Melissa stood beside her, taking photos of every page with her phone.

Then came Thursday afternoon’s recording.

The footage showed Lily sitting calmly at the kitchen table, drawing with crayons. Evelyn walked in, snatched Lily’s stuffed animal, and shoved it into a high cabinet. When Lily began to cry, Evelyn grabbed her hard by the cheek—leaving the red mark I had seen earlier—and dragged her into the hallway.

Then came the audio from Melissa’s phone call to 911:

"Yes, operator? My niece is completely out of control. She’s violent, throwing furniture, and her mother is out of state and mentally incompetent to handle her. We fear for the child’s safety under her mother’s care. We need police intervention immediately."

They weren't trying to discipline Lily. They were intentionally constructing a fraudulent paper trail to prove that I was an unfit mother—hoping to claim legal guardianship over Lily and take control of the multi-million dollar estate and trust fund left behind by my late husband.

I saved the video files to three separate external hard drives and uploaded them to encrypted cloud storage.

One week later, they thought they were going to ruin me. They had no idea I was about to dismantle their entire lives.
