Chapter 5 - Turning the Tides
By Monday morning, my legal team was fully engaged. I hired Sarah Vance, one of the top family and corporate litigation attorneys in the state.
When Sarah reviewed the high-definition security footage, the audio recordings, and the bank statements, she leaned back in her leather chair and smiled grimly.
“This isn’t just petty family drama, Natalie,” Sarah said. “This is attempted child custody fraud, grand theft conspiracy, child abuse, and filing a false emergency report. They gave you a gift by calling the police—because now their fraud is tied directly to a state agency response.”
While Sarah prepared the legal filings, my mother and sister moved ahead with their delusional scheme. On Wednesday morning, I received a formal notice in the mail. Evelyn had filed an emergency petition with the county family court for temporary custody of Lily, alleging that I was an emotionally unstable workaholic who left my child in dangerous conditions.
They actually believed they were winning.
