Chapter 3 - Freezing the Pipeline

By dawn, the shock of financial paralysis had turned into outright panic for the family.
At 7:00 a.m., Daniel attempted to buy his usual double espresso at the café down the street. The payment failed. He tried to log into our shared bank portal, only to find his access permissions revoked. When he called the bank, the private wealth representative politely informed him that all joint authorization had been terminated per the primary account holder’s explicit legal instructions.
At 8:30 a.m., two uniform officers accompanied by Arthur Vance arrived at the penthouse door.
Daniel answered in his bathrobe, his eyes bloodshot, his mother standing behind him in a silk robe—a silk robe bought with my holiday bonus last year.
"Mr. Daniel Miller?" the senior officer asked. "We are serving you with an emergency temporary restraining order and an ex-parte custody order issued by the Family Division of the Circuit Court. You are required to vacate these premises immediately."
"Vacate? This is my home!" Daniel shouted, his voice cracking. "My wife is having a mental breakdown! She ran off with our daughter last night!"
Arthur stepped forward, presenting a thick leather bound folder. "Mr. Miller, the apartment is titled entirely under Ms. Sarah Jenkins' pre-marital revocable trust. Furthermore, child protective authorities have opened an active investigation regarding the willful neglect and endangerment of Emma Miller, documented on high-definition balcony security cameras and restaurant receipts."

Olivia gasped, clutching her throat. "Neglect? We were teaching the child restraint! She was being picky!"
"You locked a three-year-old on a freezing balcony with stale bread while consuming five thousand dollars' worth of seafood purchased on her mother's corporate account," Arthur said, his voice as cold as steel. "You have twenty minutes to gather your personal clothing. Anything else will remain on the premises subject to an independent forensic audit."
