Chapter 6 - The Verdict of Reckoning
"Mr. Whitmore," Judge Carter said, leaning forward. "In my twenty years on the bench, I have seen many fractured families. I have seen parental alienation, infidelity, and bitter financial disputes. But rarely have I witnessed such a chilling display of parental abandonment caught on camera."
Daniel looked up, his tears doing nothing to soften the judge's expression.
"You allowed your marital indiscretions to cloud your most basic human instinct—to protect your child," Judge Carter continued. "The medical evidence clearly dictates that your actions directly contributed to the severity of Noah’s permanent injuries."
The judge cleared her throat and read the final decree.
"Effective immediately, sole legal and physical custody of Noah Whitmore is granted exclusively to Claire Whitmore. Daniel Whitmore will have zero visitation rights. A permanent restraining order will remain in effect until Noah reaches the age of eighteen, at which point he may choose whether or not to contact you. Furthermore, the marital home is awarded solely to the plaintiff, and Mr. Whitmore is ordered to pay maximum child support, alongside covering one hundred percent of Noah’s ongoing medical and therapeutic bills."

Daniel sank into his chair, utterly ruined. He had lost his son, his wife, his home, and his money.
Claire stood up, buttoned her blazer, and walked out of the courtroom without giving Daniel a single glance. As she stepped out into the bright Arizona sunlight, the crushing weight that had sat on her chest for six months finally lifted. She was free.
