Chapter 7 - A New Horizon in Paris

Six months later.
Paris in the spring was breathtaking. The chestnut trees along the Boulevard Saint-Germain were in full bloom, and the air smelled of fresh pastries, espresso, and rain.
Evelyn had settled into an exquisite apartment in the Le Marais district, featuring tall French windows, original hardwood floors, and a balcony overflowing with blooming jasmine. She had built a new life centered on self-respect, professional triumph, and joy.
She was no longer the timid woman who suffered in silence. She was respected by her peers, revered by her staff, and admired throughout the European business community.
One rainy Tuesday afternoon, Evelyn attended an international logistics summit at the Palais des Congrès. As she presented her keynote speech on ethical corporate governance, her eyes swept across the auditorium.
In the front row sat Gabriel Moreau, the CEO of Moreau Logistics, one of Europe's most prominent green shipping fleets. Gabriel was forty years old, brilliant, incredibly charming, with sharp blue eyes and a warm, genuine smile that had caught Evelyn’s attention during corporate negotiations two months prior.
Unlike Grant, who had always tried to dim her light to make himself look brighter, Gabriel openly celebrated Evelyn’s brilliant mind.
After the keynote concluded, Gabriel walked up to her at the reception, holding two cups of warm espresso.
"An incredible speech, Director Hart," Gabriel said softly, his voice rich with a warm French accent. "Or should I say, Evelyn?"
Evelyn smiled, taking the cup. "Thank you, Gabriel. You didn't find the governance metrics too tedious?"
"I find anything you talk about fascinating," Gabriel replied earnestly, looking straight into her eyes. "In fact, I was hoping to celebrate your success tonight. There is a small bistro near the Seine that serves the best duck confit in Paris. Would you join me?"

Evelyn looked at Gabriel—a man of integrity, respect, and kindness—and felt a warmth inside her heart that she hadn't experienced in years.
"I would love to, Gabriel," she replied softly.
