Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Ten years after that fateful night, I stood on the back porch of our beach house, watching the golden sunset paint the ocean waves in shades of orange and pink.
Sophie, now a confident, bright fifteen-year-old with a radiant smile, came running up from the shoreline, holding a collection of seashells she had found.
"Look at this one, Mom!" she laughed, holding up a polished, iridescent pearl shell that caught the evening light. "It's perfect."
"It really is, sweetie," I smiled, wrapping my arm around her shoulder.
She leaned her head against my arm, looking out at the endless horizon. "You know, Mom... sometimes I think about how far we've come. And I just want to say thank you. You saved my life."

Tears of pure happiness welled in my eyes. I kissed the top of her head. "You saved me too, Sophie. We saved each other."
We stood together on the porch, watching the sun dip below the horizon, wrapped in total peace, security, and a future brighter than we had ever dared to dream.
