Chapter 7 - A Titan’s Collapse

The following weeks unfolded with relentless precision.

Without his wealth, his prestige, or his control over Emily, Ethan Caldwell crumbled rapidly.

The media, which had once praised him as a tech prodigy, turned on him overnight. Headline after headline splashed his mugshot across local and national news: "Tech CEO Arrested in Brutal Domestic Assault Case", "Caldwell Digital Solutions Faces Federal Fraud Investigation", and "The Fall of Nashville’s Golden Boy."

Stripped of his CEO title by a unanimous board vote, Ethan was forced to sell his lavish Bellevue mansion at a steep discount to pay for his mounting legal defense. His high-powered attorneys, realizing the overwhelming weight of the video evidence and forensic accounting, advised him to plead guilty.

In a cold, sterile holding room at the county courthouse, Ethan sat across from his primary defense attorney, sweating through his cheap jumpsuit.

"Can't we fight the video?" Ethan demanded frantically. "Say it was doctored! Say her father planted it!"

"Ethan, shut up," his attorney said bluntly, slamming a thick binder onto the table. "The video came directly from your own encrypted home server. The forensic team authenticated the metadata. Furthermore, your former father-in-law provided federal prosecutors with four years of hidden banking ledgers showing you laundered money through shell companies."

"That old man is ruined me!" Ethan raged, slamming his fists on the metal table.

"That old man," the attorney corrected, "was a Chief of Military Intelligence who spent his career dismantling criminal rings in war zones. You tried to bully a man who spent thirty years dealing with real monsters. You lose, Ethan. Take the plea deal, or you will spend twenty years in a federal penitentiary."

Two days later, Ethan stood before Judge Sarah Jenkins for his sentencing hearing.

Emily sat in the front row of the gallery, dressed in an elegant navy blazer, flanked by her father and her attorney. She did not flinch when Ethan was led into the courtroom in chains.

The judge looked down at Ethan with cold disgust.

"Mr. Caldwell," Judge Jenkins declared, her voice ringing clearly through the courtroom. "You used your wealth, your position, and your physical strength to abuse and terrorize your wife while maintaining a fraudulent public persona. The evidence brought against you is indisputable."

The judge slammed her gavel down with a sharp, decisive crack.

"I sentence you to eight years at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution for aggravated domestic assault and evidence tampering, to be followed immediately by federal trial proceedings for financial fraud."

Ethan was led away in handcuffs, his head hanging low, refusing to look at the gallery.
