Chapter 10 - A New Sunrise

Three years after that fateful Easter afternoon, the sun rose brightly over the green pasture behind Richard’s house.
The morning air was crisp and fresh. Songbirds sang softly from the branches of the towering white oak trees that bordered the property.
On the wooden back deck, a long outdoor dining table was set for a feast. Fresh flowers rested in glass jars along the center. Plates of hot biscuits, smoked bacon, fresh fruit, and roasted coffee lined the table.
Emily walked out through the screen door, carrying a large platter of fresh blueberry pancakes. Behind her walked a kind-hearted local architect named David, who had worked closely with her foundation to design safe house facilities. David smiled warmth and deep respect as he helped set the table, his hand resting gently and reassuringly on Emily’s back.
Richard stood by the grill, watching them. He saw the way David treated Emily—with quiet honor, absolute respect, and patience. And he saw the genuine, glowing smile on his daughter's face—a smile he hadn't seen since she was a young girl.
Emily looked up and caught her father watching her. She walked over to him, leaning her head gently against his shoulder just like she used to do when she was a child.
"What are you thinking about, Dad?" she asked quietly.
Richard looked out over the vast, peaceful Tennessee hills stretched out before them, bathed in golden morning sunlight.
He remembered the panic of that Easter call, the sound of glass breaking, the cold rage that had consumed him as he drove through the gates, and the dark years of worry that had preceded it.
All of that was gone now. The darkness had been burned away by the light of truth, courage, and unconditional love.

He wrapped his arm around his daughter's shoulders, pulling her close.
"I’m thinking," Richard said softly, a warm smile gracing his face, "that it’s a beautiful morning for breakfast."
