Chapter 8 - RECKONING IN THE BALLROOM

The silence in the ballroom was absolute. You could hear a pin drop on the thick velvet carpet.
Julian stopped backing away, his face twisting into an ugly mask of pure venom as he stared at his younger brother.
"You," Julian hissed, his voice trembling with humiliated fury. "You pathetic traitor. You brought an infant and a nurse into a war zone just to stage a coup?"
"I brought the truth, Julian," Ethan’s voice rang out, clear and steady, carrying effortlessly across the cavernous hall. He stopped ten feet from the base of the stage. "You killed Lucas. You tried to poison his newborn son. And you thought you could hide behind your boardroom allies and your bought-and-paid-for politicians."
"He's lying!" Julian screamed, gesturing frantically to the remaining guards near the stage. "Kill him! Kill them all!"
Not a single guard moved.
Don Moretti stepped forward, drawing a heavy gold-plated revolver from his inner jacket pocket and leveling it directly at Julian’s chest.
"In our family," Moretti said, his voice cold as a tomb, "a blood debt is paid in blood. You touched my daughter's child, Julian. You signed your own death warrant the moment you stepped into that hospital."
Julian panicked. He lunged sideways toward the podium, desperately reaching for the concealed emergency panic button beneath the mahogany wood.
Bang.
Viktor didn't hesitate. His suppressed .45 spat fire once.
The bullet struck the edge of the podium an inch from Julian’s fingers, sending wood splinters flying and pinning Julian’s hand against the wood with the force of the impact.
Julian shrieked in agony, dropping to his knees, clutching his bleeding hand.
Ethan walked slowly up the steps of the stage, standing over his older brother. The man who had terrorized Chicago for a decade was now broken, bleeding, and utterly stripped of his power.
"It’s over, Julian," Ethan said softly.
Before Julian could answer, the heavy glass entrance doors at the far end of the ballroom shattered under the weight of a coordinated federal tactical breach.
"FBI! Federal Law Enforcement! Nobody move!"

Dozens of federal agents in full tactical gear swarmed the ballroom, securing the exits, cuffing corrupt politicians, and placing the remaining capos under immediate arrest. The encrypted data Ethan had broadcasted had automatically routed directly to federal cyber-crime units simultaneously.
Julian was hauled to his feet by two federal agents, his designer suit stained with blood and dirt, his head bowed in utter defeat as they dragged him past the roaring crowd toward the elevators.
