Chapter 9 - A Promise Restored

Lily grabbed her father's hand and practically bounded up the stairs, with Mark and me following right behind her.
When she ran into her bedroom, she stopped short. Everything looked completely back to normal. The heavy oak bookshelf stood securely in its usual corner, fully stacked with her schoolbooks and toys. The room was clean, tidy, and quiet.
Lily turned back to us, her hands on her hips, looking hilariously suspicious. "Is this a joke? Everything looks the same!"
"Does it?" Mark asked, walking over to the bookshelf. He gave her a mysterious wink and reached for a specific red leather book on the third shelf.
When he pulled the spine down slightly, a soft click echoed through the room.
Lily gasped, stepping back.
Slowly, effortlessly, the entire massive bookshelf swung open on its hidden hinges, revealing the glowing, starlit passage behind it.
Lily stood frozen, her mouth open in absolute shock. The soft, warm light from the fiber-optic stars danced across her face.
"Is... is that..." she stammered, her voice barely a whisper.
"Go take a look, sweetheart," I said gently, placing my hands on her shoulders and nudging her forward.
Lily took a timid, hesitant step through the hidden doorway. As she crossed the threshold into the secret room, her eyes wandered over the navy starry ceiling, the stained-glass moon window, the plush rug, and the framed original drawings from her grandmother's storybooks lining the walls.

She reached out, her small fingers touching the soft velvet bench, as if testing whether it was real or just a dream. Tears welled up in her big brown eyes—not tears of sadness, but of overwhelming wonder.
"It's Grandma's Secret Library," Lily whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "It's real. You made it real."
