Chapter 9 - The Truth Unveiled

With their personal lives stabilizing, Rowan felt it was time to completely clear Megan’s name in the public eye. He wasn't content with just a private resolution; he wanted the entire world to know the absolute purity of his wife’s character.
He organized a major press conference at the corporate headquarters in Nashville. The media attended in droves, expecting a standard corporate announcement or a statement regarding the Whitmore trial.
Instead, Rowan stood at the podium, flanked by his legal team and the independent intelligence investigators.
"Thank you all for coming," Rowan said, his voice echoing clearly through the packed auditorium. "One year ago, a grave injustice was committed against my wife, Megan Bellamy. Through a calculated, malicious campaign of corporate espionage, forgery, and criminal extortion orchestrated by Claire Whitmore, false evidence was presented to me and to the public, suggesting my wife had defrauded my company."
The room erupted into a flurry of whispers and flashing cameras.
Rowan raised his hand for silence. "Today, I am releasing the full, unedited findings of the independent federal investigation. Every cent that was allegedly embezzled was traced directly back to shell corporations controlled by the Whitmore family. Megan Bellamy was entirely innocent. She was a victim of a monstrous crime."
He paused, looking directly into the main camera lens. "I am standing here today not just as a businessman, but as a man who publicly apologizes to his wife. I failed to protect her from a viper, but I will spend the rest of my days ensuring her name is held in the highest honor, as it deserves to be."
The press conference was a media sensation. The narrative completely flipped overnight. Megan was no longer the disgraced ex-wife; she was an icon of resilience, a woman who had endured unimaginable hardship to protect her children from a ruthless socialite.
When Rowan returned home that evening, the house was quiet. He found Megan standing in her art studio, looking out the large windows at the star-filled sky.
She turned to him as he entered. She had watched the broadcast.
"You didn't have to do that, Rowan," she said, her voice trembling slightly. "The private truth was enough for me."
"It wasn't enough for me," Rowan said, walking up to her, stopping just inches away. "The world smeared your name because of my blindness. It was only right that the world heard the truth from my mouth."
Megan looked up at him, tears shining in her eyes. But these were tears of closure. The final remnant of the nightmare had been dispelled.

"Rowan," she whispered, stepping forward and closing the distance between them. She placed her hands on his chest, feeling the steady, strong beat of his heart. "I love you. I never stopped loving you, even when I was angry, even when I was afraid."
Rowan wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close, burying his face in her neck as he breathed her in. "I love you, Megan. More than life itself."
