Chapter 7 - The Proposal in the Park

Spring had arrived in New York City, painting Central Park in vibrant shades of emerald green and cherry blossom pink. The crisp morning air carried the scent of roasted chestnuts and blooming lilacs as the three of us strolled along the winding pathways near the Bethesda Fountain.

Ethan was chasing a flock of pigeons, his bright red jacket bobbing up and down between the trees, while Daniel and I walked hand-in-hand behind him.

"You've been quiet today, counselor," I teased, glancing sideways at Daniel. "Is something on your mind? Did a federal judge rule against you?"

Daniel chuckled, squeezing my hand slightly. "Not a chance. Even federal judges know better than to argue with me when I'm determined."

He stopped walking, pulling me gently toward a secluded alcove overlooking the lake. The sunlight danced across the shimmering water, creating a breathtaking backdrop. Ethan was happily occupied a few yards away, tossing breadcrumbs to a particularly friendly duck.

"Morgan," Daniel began, his voice dropping into that deep, resonant tone that always made my heart skip a beat. He turned to face me fully, taking both of my hands in his. "When I first saw you standing on that stage at The Carlyle, holding your son with tears in your eyes and fire in your soul, I knew my life changed forever. You didn't just survive an impossible life—you emerged from it with your grace and kindness completely intact."

My breath hitched in my throat. I knew what was coming, but experiencing it in real-time felt like floating in a dream.

Daniel slowly dropped to one knee on the cobblestone path. Passersby slowed down, smiling warmly as they realized what was happening.

From his jacket pocket, Daniel pulled out a small black velvet box. He flipped it open, revealing a breathtaking, brilliant-cut diamond ring that caught the morning sunlight like a prism.

"You've given me a family, Morgan. You've taught me what true resilience looks like," Daniel said, his dark eyes shining with deep emotion. "Will you marry me? Will you and Ethan let me spend the rest of my days making sure you are loved, protected, and cherished the way you always deserved?"

May you like

Tears spilled over my eyelashes, but my face beamed with radiant joy.

"Yes, Daniel," I whispered, my voice breaking slightly with emotion. "Yes, a million times yes."
