Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

Six months later, the U.S. District Court in downtown Seattle was packed with reporters, federal agents, and citizens. The trial of Victor Raines had reached its final day.

Nia sat on the witness stand, her voice steady and confident as she walked the jury through the electronic audit logs, the altered medical files, and the night she was attacked. She spoke not with anger, but with the quiet authority of a woman who dedicated her life to protecting others.

When the defense attorney attempted to question her character and her connection to Adrian Vale, Nia looked directly at the jury.

"Mr. Vale saved my life when I was left for dead on a wet curb," Nia stated clearly. "He didn't do it for profit or reputation. He did it because he remembers what it means to be human. Which is something Victor Raines forgot a long time ago."

The courtroom fell silent.

When Victor Raines was called to the stand, his legal team tried desperately to shift blame onto rogue managers and external contractors. But the mountain of encrypted data provided by Nia and Adrian was undeniable.

After only two hours of deliberation, the jury returned with a verdict: Guilty on all forty-two counts, including federal racketeering, drug trafficking, attempted murder, and corporate fraud.

Raines was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

As federal marshals led Raines away in handcuffs, he paused near the gallery, staring bitterly at Adrian, who sat quietly in the front row beside Marcus.

"You think you won, Vale?" Raines sneered, his voice raspy. "You're just like me! A villain in a expensive suit!"

Adrian stood up slowly, adjusting his jacket. He looked at Raines with a calm, untroubled expression.

"No, Victor," Adrian said quietly enough for only Raines to hear. "The difference between you and me is simple. You used people to build an empire. I used my empire to protect the people I love."

Raines was dragged away through the heavy double doors, his protests fading into the sterile courtroom hallway.
