Chapter 4 - A Mother's Vengeance

Elena refused to remain confined to her hospital bed any longer. Against medical advice, she requested a wheelchair and had Marcus take her directly to the hospital’s executive boardroom on the top floor, where the board of directors was holding an emergency closed-door meeting with Arthur Sterling.
The heavy mahogany doors flew open as Marcus pushed Elena into the room.
Arthur Sterling, a sharp-featured man in his late sixties wearing a bespoke three-piece suit, stopped mid-sentence. He adjusted his silk tie and glared at Elena. "Dr. Vance. This is a private executive session. You should be resting in your room."
"This session is over, Arthur," Elena said calmly, her voice carrying an authority that made the board members sit up straight.
"Elena, you are traumatized," Sterling said smoothly, holding up a hand. "What happened in your delivery room was a tragic miscalculation by Preston. The board is taking steps to compensate you handsomely. But making wild accusations regarding our research division will only ruin the reputation of the institution your father helped build."
Elena smiled—a cold, sharp smile that terrified the board members who knew her skill in the operating room.
She pulled a black USB drive from her pocket and dropped it onto the glass conference table. It slid to a stop right in front of Sterling.
"On that drive are the unredacted server logs from the hospital's central mainframe," Elena stated clearly. "Every time Preston altered a high-risk chart, the system created an encrypted mirror log on my personal server. I set up that security protocol three years ago when I noticed discrepancies in the gynecology department."
Sterling’s face hardened. "You have no authority to access those logs."
"I am the Chief of Fetal Surgery at this hospital, Arthur," Elena replied firmly. "And as of twenty minutes ago, the board’s majority shareholder—my brother, Marcus—has officially revoked your seat."
Marcus stepped forward, throwing a stack of legal documents onto the table. "My sister built the surgical reputation of this facility. You and Preston turned it into a slaughterhouse for profit. The FBI is waiting downstairs in the lobby, Arthur. They have a search warrant for your private servers at BioTech headquarters."
Sterling looked around the table, searching for allies among the board members, but every single director looked away, unwilling to sink with him. Realizing he had been completely cornered, Sterling picked up his briefcase, his hands trembling slightly, and walked toward the exit without uttering another word.

As the door clicked shut behind him, Elena turned to the remaining board members. "Effective immediately, every patient affected by Preston’s clinical trials will receive full disclosure, unlimited medical coverage at our expense, and complete cooperation with law enforcement. If anyone in this room objects, you can hand in your resignation today."
Not a single person raised an objection.
