Chapter 8 - A New Dawn

Six months later.

The Volkov estate in Lake Forest had been completely rebuilt, restored to an even grander state than before. But the dark, oppressive aura that once hung over the mansion was gone, replaced by light, laughter, and open windows.

Sloan was now the head administrator of the estate, managing a new team of staff with her characteristic sharp wit. Kirill was promoted to Chief of Security, spending his days training new guards and ensuring the estate remained an impenetrable fortress.

As for me, I was no longer a maid. I spent my days working with charitable foundations across Chicago, using the vast resources of the Volkov estate to build clinics and shelters for underprivileged families—bringing light into a world that had seen too much darkness.

It was a chilly autumn evening. Leaves of gold and crimson danced across the grand courtyard as a sleek black sedan pulled up to the front entrance.

Damon stepped out of the car, looking striking in a tailored dark suit. As soon as he saw me standing on the porch, wrapped in a warm knitted sweater, his stern facial expression melted away into a gentle smile.

"How was your day in the city?" I asked, walking down the steps to meet him.

"Productive," Damon replied, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me close for a deep, lingering kiss. "The board approved the new funding for your medical center."

"Thank you, Damon," I beamed, leaning my head against his chest.

"Anything for you, my queen," he murmured into my hair.

He took my hand, leading me down the paved pathway toward the private garden behind the estate. The sun was setting, casting a warm golden hue across the glass greenhouse that he had specifically built for me.

Inside the greenhouse, thousands of white roses were in full bloom, filling the warm air with a sweet scent.

"Why did you bring me here?" I asked, looking around in wonder.

Damon turned to face me, taking both of my hands in his. His gray eyes, usually so intense and guarded, were filled with warmth and devotion.

"Alina, when you first stepped into my room that night, I was a man living in darkness, waiting for an bullet that would end it all," he said softly. "You saved my life—not just with a medical kit, but by giving me a reason to live."
