Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

Two years later.
Spring had returned to Lake Forest. The sun burned bright over the green lawn, and the breeze carried the fresh scent of blooming jasmine.
I stood on the balcony of the master bedroom, watching the peaceful horizon. I wore a light cotton dress, my hair flowing loose over my shoulders. Behind me, the balcony doors clicked open softly.
Damon stepped out, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind. He rested his chin on my shoulder, his hands sliding down to rest gently over the visible bump of my pregnant stomach.
"How are our guests doing?" Damon asked softly, kissing the side of my neck.
"They're fine," I giggled softly. "Sloan and Kirill are arguing again about the catering for the baby shower."
"Some things never change," Damon chuckled, his deep laugh vibrating against my back. He gently stroked my stomach, his face softening with incredible tenderness. "How is he doing today?"
"He's kicking," I said, taking Damon's hand and pressing it against my belly.
A moment later, a firm little kick pushed against his palm. Damon’s eyes widened in delight, a gentle gasp escaping his lips. No matter how many times he felt it, the miracle of new life never failed to bring Chicago's feared boss to tears.
"He's strong," Damon whispered, pressing a tender kiss against my stomach. "Just like his mother."
"And stubborn like his father," I added playfully.
We stood together on the balcony, watching the sunset cast long golden rays across our home. The shadows of the past—the gunfire, the blood, the fear, and the secrecy—were long gone, replaced by a love that had survived the storm.
Damon turned me around in his arms, cupping my face gently as he looked into my eyes with infinite devotion.
"I used to think my life was defined by the empire I built," Damon said softly. "But now I know... my real empire is right here in my arms."
"I love you, Damon," I whispered.

"I love you, Alina. Forever."
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of violet and gold, Damon leaned down and kissed me—a quiet, beautiful promise of a lifetime filled with peace, love, and happiness.
