Chapter 10 - The Happy Ending
Spring returned to the East Coast in a brilliant explosion of blooming cherry blossoms and emerald-green lawns. The Cole estate was once again a sanctuary of peace, love, and unwavering trust.
Arthur sat in the courtyard pavilion, painting on a large canvas—a long-forgotten hobby he had picked back up now that his health and mind were fully restored. He was laughing heartily as two golden retrievers chased each other across the manicured grass.
Inside the grand library, Nathan and Maria sat side by side at the large mahogany desk, reviewing architectural blueprints for a new charitable foundation they were launching together to support underprivileged families and elderly care facilities across New York and Queens.
"My mother called this morning," Maria said, looking up from the blueprints with a radiant smile. "She said she still can't believe she gets to visit us in such a wonderful home every weekend without worrying about anything."
"Your mother is a wonderful woman, Maria. She raised a brilliant daughter," Nathan said warmly, reaching across the desk to take her hand in his. His fingers intertwined naturally with hers, a gesture that felt entirely effortless and right.
Maria looked down at their joined hands, then up into Nathan’s eyes. The pain of the past, the terrifying nights of hiding in hallways, and the cold cruelty of Victoria Sinclair felt like a lifetime away. Truth had triumphed over deceit, innocence had prevailed over greed, and loyalty had built a foundation that could never be shaken.
"We did it," Maria whispered softly.
