Chapter 6 - Dawn at the Mansion

The morning sun cast a harsh, unforgiving light over the sprawling colonial-weight iron gates of the Robles family estate in the upscale Lomas de Chapultepec district.
Inside the grand foyer, Doña Teresa Robles sat stiffly in a velvet armchair, her posture rigid despite having spent the entire night awake. Her cell phone lay silent on the mahogany side table. She had tried calling Alejandro a dozen times, but each call went straight to voicemail. Her mind raced with panic masked by decades of arrogance. She had survived crises before; she was a Robles. Alejandro would eventually realize that scandal would destroy them both; he would come to his senses and sweep the mess under the rug, as men of their stature always did.
Then, the heavy front gates groaned open.
Teresa didn't expect a single car. Instead, a convoy of three sleek black sedans swept up the circular cobblestone driveway, followed immediately by an unmarked van with tinted windows.
Before the house staff could move toward the front entrance, the heavy oak doors swung open.
Alejandro walked in first. He was dressed in a sharp, slate-gray business suit, his expression carved from granite. Behind him stepped two senior partners from the city’s most prestigious corporate law firm, followed by two uniformed federal financial investigators carrying heavy leather briefcases.
Teresa stood up slowly from her armchair, her eyes flashing with fury as she smoothed the front of her silk blouse.
“Have you completely lost your mind, Alejandro?” Teresa demanded, her voice echoing off the high vaulted ceilings of the foyer. “Bringing strangers into my home? Dragging police investigators to my doorstep? Do you have any idea what this looks like for our social standing?”
Alejandro stopped just a few feet away from her. He didn't raise his voice. He didn't yell. His calm demeanor was far more terrifying than any explosion of rage.
“Your social standing ended last night, Mother,” Alejandro said smoothly. He gestured to the lead investigator. “Proceed.”
The investigator stepped forward, opening a thick leather folder and holding out an official document bearing the seal of the Federal District Court.
“Doña Teresa Robles,” the investigator stated clearly, “you are hereby served with a formal federal injunction freezing all personal and corporate holding accounts linked to your name, pending a full criminal investigation into corporate fraud, embezzlement of dependent welfare funds, and extortion.”
Teresa’s breath hitched. She stared at the paper as if it were written in a foreign language.
“Fraud? Embezzlement?” She laughed, a shrill, hysterical sound that lacked any real conviction. “I am the founder’s widow! I own forty percent of this corporation! You cannot touch me!”
“You owned forty percent,” Alejandro corrected her quietly, stepping closer until he looked down into her startled eyes. “As of 6:00 AM this morning, the emergency board of directors reviewed the forensic audit of your private offshore accounts. Your shares have been legally suspended under emergency corporate bylaws regarding criminal financial misconduct against direct dependents.”
Teresa staggered back a half-step, her hand catching the edge of the mahogany table for support. “You… you stripped me of my shares? Your own mother?”
“You stopped being a mother the morning you threw my wife and daughter onto the pavement and left them to rot in a damp tenement while you played queen at charity galas,” Alejandro said, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper. “You thought you could control everyone. You thought money and silence could bury the truth forever.”
Before Teresa could formulate a response, the heavy front doors opened once more.
Footsteps echoed softly across the marble floor.
Teresa turned her head toward the entrance, and the last remnants of her formidable composure shattered completely.
There stood Lucía, wearing a clean, elegant emerald-green dress that Alejandro had had delivered from a private boutique earlier that morning. Her hair was neatly brushed, falling in soft waves over her shoulders. Holding her right hand tightly was Sofía, wearing a pretty yellow sundress and shiny patent leather shoes, looking around the grand foyer with wide, curious eyes.
Don Eusebio stood just behind them, holding a small suitcase containing the few belongings they had managed to salvage from the room near La Merced.
Teresa’s face twisted with pure venom as she pointed a trembling finger at Lucía.
“You… you brought this parasite back into my home? You dare parade her in front of me after everything I sacrificed to keep this family clean?”
May you like
Alejandro stepped smoothly between his mother and his family, shielding them with his broad shoulders.
“This is her home, Mother,” Alejandro said, his voice ringing with absolute finality. “And you are no longer welcome in it.”
