Chapter 6 - The Fall of the Accomplices

While the corporate world was adjusting to the rise of Madeline Vance as the undisputed queen of logistics, the wheels of criminal justice were turning with devastating speed.
In a modest, two-bedroom apartment on the outskirts of Atlanta, Cynthia was frantic. She was packing clothes into a duffel bag, her hands shaking so violently she dropped a pair of expensive designer shoes. Austin, her two-year-old son, was crying in his crib, startled by his mother's manic energy.
Suddenly, the front door was hit with a tremendous force. CRACK.
The door burst open, and four uniform police officers stepped into the apartment, followed by two detectives.
"Cynthia Rogers?" the lead detective asked, holding up a warrant. "You are under arrest for accessory to felony child cruelty, criminal neglect of a minor, and corporate embezzlement."
Cynthia screamed, dropping the bag. "No! You have the wrong person! It was Jeffrey! Jeffrey told me what to do! He said the kid was crazy! I didn't do anything!"
"Save it for the judge, Ms. Rogers," the detective said coldly, nodding to a female officer who stepped forward and slammed handcuffs onto Cynthia’s wrists.
As Cynthia was led out of the apartment building in tears, paparazzi—secretly tipped off by Madeline’s public relations team—flashed their cameras, capturing every moment of her humiliation. By that evening, her face would be plastered across every local news station, permanently ruining any chance she ever had of finding employment or social acceptance again. Austin was safely handed over to child protective services, pending a evaluation by his maternal aunt, ensuring the child would be raised far away from the toxic influence of his parents.
Meanwhile, in a gated retirement community in Florida, Noelle was enjoying a glass of white wine by the pool, convinced that her age and social status would protect her from the fallout in Atlanta. She had fled the state the moment Jeffrey was fired, leaving her son to face the music alone.
Her phone rang. It was an unknown number. Thinking it was her lawyer, she answered eagerly. "Hello? Have you sorted out the asset freezing? I need to access my allowance."
"Noelle," a voice replied. It wasn't her lawyer. It was Madeline.
Noelle’s blood ran cold. "Madeline? How dare you call me! You've ruined my family! You've destroyed my son's career!"
"I haven't even started with you, Noelle," Madeline said, her voice chillingly peaceful. "Did you really think fleeing to Florida would save you? I just bought the mortgage on your retirement villa. The bank sold it to my holding company this morning because you used the property as collateral for one of Jeffrey’s failed business loans."
Noelle dropped her wine glass. It shattered on the concrete pool deck. "You... you bought my house?"
"And I am evicting you, effective immediately," Madeline said. "Furthermore, the Georgia State Police have just issued an interstate extradition warrant for your arrest. The security footage of you kicking my four-year-old son and forcing him to eat scraps is currently viral on the internet. Your high-society friends in Atlanta know exactly what kind of monster you are."
Right on cue, two local Florida sheriff's deputies walked through the pool gates, their eyes locked onto Noelle.
"Noelle Vance?" one of the deputies called out, drawing his handcuffs. "We have a warrant for your arrest from Fulton County, Georgia."

Noelle began to scream, thrashing as the deputies grabbed her luxury resort wear and forced her hands behind her back. "I am a lady! You can't do this to me! Madeline, you bitch! I'll kill you!"
"Goodbye, Noelle," Madeline said softly, hanging up the phone. "Enjoy the prison cafeteria. I hear they serve the scraps on the floor."
