Chapter 5 - The Purge of Vanguard Logistics

The boardroom of Vanguard Logistics was suffocatingly tense. The twelve board members, all wealthy investors and industry tycoons, sat in silence as Madeline stood at the projector screen.

Jeffrey sat at the far end of the table, flanked by two security guards Madeline had hired to ensure he didn't attempt to destroy any corporate data before his official termination. His eyes were red, his tie loosened, looking like a man awaiting the electric chair.

"Gentlemen," Madeline began, her voice commanding the entire room. "For the past two years, I have served as the Executive Vice President of International Operations. While I was in London securing the European supply chain, the CEO, Jeffrey, was mismanaging corporate funds to fund a lavish lifestyle for his mistress, Cynthia Vance—no relation to my family—and cover up severe domestic liabilities."

She pressed a button, and the screen flashed with financial spreadsheets.

"Over the last eighteen months, Jeffrey authorized over five hundred thousand dollars in 'consulting fees' paid directly to a shell company owned by Cynthia," Madeline explained. "Furthermore, he used corporate accounts to pay for the lease on a luxury vehicle and a penthouse apartment where Cynthia resided before he illegally moved her into my private residence."

The board members began to mutter angrily. One elderly investor, a longtime friend of Madeline's father, slammed his fist down. "This is embezzlement! Jeffrey, what do you have to say for yourself?"

Jeffrey couldn't even look up. He kept his eyes glued to the mahogany table, his silence an absolute admission of guilt.

"But that is not the worst of it," Madeline continued, her tone shifting to an icy calm. "To ensure his actions remained hidden, Jeffrey attempted to disable the proprietary logistics tracking software that I developed—software that holds the encryption keys for our entire global network. In doing so, he caused a massive data breach three weeks ago, which he intentionally hid from the board."

A collective gasp echoed through the room. A data breach of that scale could destroy the company's reputation overnight.

"Fortunately," Madeline said, her voice rising with absolute authority, "I have already secured the network, patched the breach, and transferred the core software licenses to my independent firm, Vance Tech Solutions. Vanguard Logistics currently has no legal right to use the software required to operate its fleet."

The board members looked panicked. "Madeline, please," one of them pleaded. "If the software goes offline, we lose millions a day! What do you want?"

"I want a complete, unconditional purge," Madeline demanded. "First, the immediate termination of Jeffrey as CEO, with cause, invalidating his golden parachute. Second, the immediate termination of Cynthia from her administrative position, followed by a corporate lawsuit to recover the embezzled funds. Third, I want the board to appoint me as the sole Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson of the Board, with a controlling fifty-one percent stake in the restructured company."

The board members didn't even hesitate. They looked at Jeffrey with disgust, then looked at Madeline with profound respect and fear.

"All in favor?" the elderly investor asked.

Every single hand in the room flew up, except Jeffrey's.

"It is decided," the investor said. "Madeline, the company is yours. Security, escort the former CEO out of the building. If he attempts to take so much as a pen, have him arrested for trespassing."

As the security guards grabbed Jeffrey by the arms and dragged him toward the door, he looked back at Madeline, his face twisted in despair. "Madeline, please! I have nothing left! My bank accounts are frozen! Where am I supposed to go?"

Madeline didn't look up from her laptop. She was already typing out the press release announcing her ascension to CEO. "You can go to the hell you built for my son, Jeffrey. I hear the floor is very comfortable."
