Chapter 8 - The Fall of the Cartel

The silence in the Sapphire Dining Hall was absolute. You could hear the distant hum of the ventilation system and the ticking of a grandfather clock in the corner.
Arthur Thorne stared down at the flash drive as if it were a venomous snake. He tried to maintain a facade of arrogant defiance, but his trembling hands betrayed him.
"It's a bluff," Thorne sneered, though his voice wavered. "You have nothing. A flash drive proves nothing without board authorization—"
"It proves everything, Mr. Thorne," a calm, familiar voice echoed from the doorway.
Mr. Sterling stood near the entrance, flanked by Lupita. Sterling held a secondary tablet device connected wirelessly to the federal task force data terminal.
"I've already initiated the master data sync," Sterling said, looking directly at the chairman. "The encrypted files contain every signed offshore transfer slip, every fake vendor invoice, every illicit guest manifest, and the audio recordings of our private meetings where we discussed silencing the audit. I'm turning myself in, Thorne. I'm done covering for monsters."
Thorne lunged across the table, grabbing for the flash drive, but one of the federal marshals intercepted him instantly, pinning the chairman's arms behind his back and forcing him down against the mahogany table.
"Arthur Thorne, you are under arrest for corporate racketeering, financial fraud, and accessory to second-degree murder," the lead marshal declared, snapping the heavy steel cuffs onto the chairman's wrists.
The remaining four board members sat paralyzed in their chairs, realizing instantly that resistance was futile. Within seconds, all of them were rounded up and placed under arrest, their corporate empires crumbling into dust in a matter of minutes.
Viktor, glaring daggers from where he was held by the second marshal, spat onto the floor. "You think prison will stop what's coming, Vance? People like you don't survive long when—"
"Shut your mouth," the marshal barked, shoving Viktor toward the exit.

As the corrupt executives and enforcers were led out of the Sapphire Dining Hall in handcuffs, the heavy cloud that had hung over the Grand Regent Hotel for three long years finally began to lift.
Ethan stood alone at the head of the table, looking out through the stained-glass skylights as the morning sun broke through the clouds, flooding the grand room with warm, golden light.
